What separates a luxury sneaker from an expensive one
A high price does not mean good construction. Five things visible in a handmade sneaker that a logo cannot replace.
The sneaker became the luxury object of the last decade, and prices climbed accordingly. The problem is that prices climbed faster than construction. Here is what is worth checking.
1. Leather everywhere, not just outside
Many expensive sneakers have leather uppers and a synthetic lining. Synthetics do not breathe; after two hours the foot notices. A well-made sneaker is fully leather-lined.
2. The sole
On sneakers the sole is almost always bonded — normal, the construction requires it. The difference lies in bonding quality and whether the sole can be replaced. Ours can, when it wears through.
3. Built on a last
A factory sneaker is made on an average last. A made-to-order one is built on the shape of your foot — which is why it has no breaking-in period and does not rub at the heel.
4. The leather
Here the difference is clearest. Lagoon is python, cut so the scale pattern flows uninterrupted across the vamp — an operation impossible on a production line. Bordeaux is polished croc with gold eyelets set through the leather.
5. Personalisation
A branded sneaker comes as it comes. A made-to-order one is made as you want: leather colour, lining, laces, eyelet type. The difference between “I bought” and “I ordered”.

People who wear suits at the office and want something for the weekend without lowering the standard. Or people who no longer like the idea of wearing the same model as ten thousand others.

- For city wear, yes — often more so, since they are built to your foot. For running, no; that is not their purpose.

- 2–3 years of regular wear, then it can be replaced. Clean with water and neutral soap, never solvents.
